KZAP. One of the most recognized, and fondly remembered radio stations in the country, began with an aim to present the most interesting music in an honest and personable way. No hype. No jive. No bluster. Memories of the original KZAP, which went off the air on January 20th, 1992, will vary by the decade in which the listener came of age. All will agree that KZAP was the voice of the times.
On July 4th, 2015 at 9:33 AM a group of rock radio veterans, led by Tom Cale, Dennis Newhall, and Diane Michaels, later joined by John Saltnes and a top-flight air staff. launched Sacramento’s K-ZAP, a new—decidedly non-corporate— rock radio station in the spirit of the original KZAP. We serve an audience that had all but given up on finding interesting, thoughtfully selected music anywhere on the radio dial, or on-line.
Returning as Sacramento’s K-ZAP at 93.3 FM and online at K-ZAP.org, we are based on a programming philosophy that combines 50 Years of Rock, Blues and More, in a carefully crafted presentation, to deliver the old and the new to an audience hungry for real rock radio.
Sacramento’s K-ZAP exposes new music from artists both familiar and emerging. And, we blend it with the wealth of incredible recordings from the last five decades, much of which has never been touched by corporate radio. Favorite artists making fresh music and fresh artists making new favorites.
Sacramento’s K-ZAP is a non-profit, listener-supported community station operated in partnership with Process Theatre, Inc. PTI has been providing instruction and support for the performing arts and digital media for more than 30 years. We will integrate our industry-standard broadcasting activities into a digital media curriculum for local high school and college students. Together, we will guide “career path” instruction for the next generation of broadcasters. For more about PTI click here.
