A familiar fall music festival is returning to Placerville with a new name — and the same goal of bringing friends together for live music. Hangtime Music Festival will take place Oct. 16-18 at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California.
“It’s about love. It’s about spending time with friends,” said Ryan Kronenberg, who is producing the event. “It’s about gathering people for live music.”
He said this is a new rendition of the Hangtown Music Festival, which was held annually for 11 years. The event will carry on the same themes as before, celebrating music, Halloween, harvest season and more. While the name has changed, Kronenberg said the essence of what makes the event special has not.
“The heart of what Hangtown was, and what the spirit of what Hangtime is becoming, is time spent with friends listening to live music,” he said. “A name is just a name. The vibe and the people and the music is what creates the festival.”
The festival released its initial lineup on Wednesday, featuring headliners Leftover Salmon, The Devil Makes Three, and Elephant Revival. Also performing will be Sam Grisman Project; Hot Buttered Rum; Poor Man’s Whiskey’s “Dark Side of the Moonshine”; Dead Winter Carpenters; Tejon St. Corner Thieves; Pixie & The Party Grass Boys; Red Dirt Ruckus; Hattie & Joe Craven Quartet; and Golden Cadillacs.
The festival is returning in a scaled-down format, Kronenberg said attendees can still expect many of the traditions they remember.
“It’s the first year back and we’re going to keep it simple,” he said.
They’ll set up one stage outdoors and one indoors. Friday and Sunday will be lighter on the programming with about one-half day of music, while Saturday will be a full day.
